The Short Version

This policy is written in plain language, but here's the summary. This section is a convenience overview — the full policy below governs.

We collect only what we need. Name, email, country, timezone, and payment information. Nothing else.
Your data is yours. Your tasks, notes, and folders are private. We don't analyze or share them.
Public templates are different. If you publish a template to the library, it's available to all users. Everything else stays private.
We don't sell your data. We don't serve ads. We don't share your information for marketing purposes.
We use a small number of trusted services. Auth0, Stripe, RevenueCat, EmailOctopus, Google Analytics, Google Firebase, Pushover, and Heroku. Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
AI access is opt-in. Principal Task has no built-in AI. If you connect a third-party AI agent via MCP, that's your choice — and your agent's privacy policy governs what it does with your data.
You're in control. You can access, correct, or delete your data at any time.
We're based in the United States. South Dakota law applies.

Full Policy

Your privacy is important to us. Schwenk Technology Group, LLC is committed to handling your personal information responsibly and transparently across Principal Task — including the website at https://www.principaltask.com, the web application, and the iOS and Android apps.

Information we collect

Log data

When you visit our website or use the Principal Task app, our servers may automatically log standard data provided by your web browser or device. This may include your IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, time and date of your visit, and time spent on each page.

Device data

We may collect data about the device you use to access Principal Task, including device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers. What we collect can depend on the individual settings of your device and software.

Personal information

We may collect the following personal information:

Name
Email address
Country and timezone
Payment information (processed by Stripe or RevenueCat — see Third-Party Processors below)

App data

Principal Task stores the content you create — including tasks, subtasks, notes, folders, and templates — in order to provide the service. This content is yours. Schwenk Technology Group, LLC does not analyze, share, or use your app data for any purpose other than operating and maintaining the service. Note that templates you choose to publish to the public template library are available to all Principal Task users under the terms described in the User Agreement.

Legal bases for processing

We will process your personal information lawfully, fairly, and transparently. We collect and process information about you only where we have legal bases for doing so. These legal bases depend on the services you use and how you use them, meaning we collect and use your information only where:

it is necessary to perform a contract with you, such as providing access to Principal Task;
it satisfies a legitimate interest of ours that is not overridden by your rights and interests, such as improving the service and communicating with you about your account;
you have given us consent to do so for a specific purpose; or
we need to comply with a legal obligation.

Where we rely on your consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time.

Collection and use of information

We collect, hold, use, and disclose information for the following purposes:

to provide, operate, and maintain Principal Task;
to manage your account and process payments;
to contact and communicate with you about your account or the service;
for internal record keeping and administrative purposes;
for analytics and product improvement, including to understand how the service is used; and
to comply with our legal obligations and resolve any disputes.

We do not serve advertisements. We do not sell your personal information or share it with third parties for their marketing purposes.

Third-party processors

We use a limited set of third-party services to operate Principal Task. Each receives only the data necessary to perform its function:

Auth0 — authentication and account management. Handles your login credentials and identity verification.
Stripe — payment processing for web subscriptions. Handles billing information for web subscribers.
RevenueCat — subscription management for mobile subscriptions. Works with Apple App Store and Google Play to manage your mobile subscription status.
EmailOctopus — email communications. Used to send transactional and marketing emails. You may unsubscribe at any time.
Google Analytics — website analytics. Collects anonymized usage data to help us understand how the website is used. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google for advertising purposes.
Google Firebase — app analytics and in-app notifications. Collects anonymized usage data from the iOS and Android apps and supports delivery of in-app notifications. No personally identifiable information is shared with Google for advertising purposes.
Pushover — push notifications. Used to deliver notifications to your device. Requires a device token to route notifications to you.
Heroku — web application hosting. Stores and processes app data on servers located in the United States.

Each of these providers maintains their own privacy policy governing their handling of your data.

Artificial intelligence and MCP

Principal Task does not include built-in artificial intelligence features and does not send your data to any AI service. Principal Task does support connecting third-party AI agents to your account via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This connection is strictly opt-in and requires your explicit authorization. When you connect an AI agent via MCP, that agent operates under its own privacy policy. Schwenk Technology Group, LLC is not responsible for how third-party AI services handle or retain data they receive through an authorized MCP connection. You may revoke MCP access at any time through your account settings.

Cookies

Principal Task uses cookies — small pieces of data stored on your device — to support the operation of the service. Cookies are used to:

maintain your login session;
remember your preferences; and
collect anonymized analytics data via Google Analytics.

You can instruct your browser to refuse cookies or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you disable cookies, some parts of Principal Task may not function correctly. Google Analytics cookies can be opted out of via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google Firebase uses similar device identifiers on mobile; these can be limited through your device's privacy settings.

International transfers of personal information

The personal information we collect is stored and processed in the United States, or where our third-party providers maintain facilities. By using Principal Task, you consent to the storage and processing of your information in the United States.

Geographic scope and applicable law

Principal Task is operated from the United States. If you are located in a jurisdiction with specific privacy rights — including California or other US states with applicable privacy legislation — the rights described in this policy (access, correction, deletion, restriction) cover the core rights those laws provide. We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your rights and controlling your personal information

Consent. By providing personal information to us, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of that information in accordance with this policy. You do not have to provide personal information to us, but if you do not, it may affect your ability to use Principal Task.

Access and portability. You may request details of the personal information we hold about you. Where possible, we will provide this information in a portable, machine-readable format.

Correction. If you believe any information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete, please contact us and we will take reasonable steps to correct it.

Deletion. You may request that we erase your personal information at any time. You may also delete your account directly through the app or by contacting us at the address below.

Restriction. You may ask us to restrict how we process your personal information. We will let you know how any restriction affects your use of the service.

Data breach notification. We will comply with applicable laws with respect to any data breach.

Complaints. If you believe we have breached a relevant data protection law, please contact us using the details below. You also have the right to contact a regulatory body or data protection authority.

Unsubscribe. To opt out of marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link in any email we send, or contact us directly.

Business transfers

If Schwenk Technology Group, LLC or its assets are acquired, user data may be transferred to the acquiring party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur and that any acquiring party may continue to use your personal information in accordance with this policy.

Links to external sites

Principal Task may link to external sites not operated by Schwenk Technology Group, LLC. We have no control over the content or privacy practices of those sites and accept no responsibility for them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will take reasonable steps to notify users of material changes. Your continued use of Principal Task after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. Where a change involves a new legal basis for processing your personal information, we will request your re-consent.
